STREETS Winter Camp Assistant – Work Experience Opportunity (December 2025)

STREETS is offering a fantastic work experience opportunity for dedicated, enthusiastic individuals who want to support children and young people during the Winter 2025 Holiday Camps. This role is ideal for those interested in education, youth work, sports coaching, community engagement, or anyone seeking meaningful experience for their CV.


About STREETS

STREETS has been delivering impactful community, education and sports programmes since 2016. As a United Nations DESA–accredited organisation, we help deliver the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals through outreach, sports development, and enrichment programmes across the UK.

Working in partnership with Active Luton and funded by the Department for Education, our holiday camps provide safe, enjoyable and enriching experiences for children aged 5–11, including those eligible for Free School Meals, refugee children, looked-after children and those referred by schools or professionals.


About the Winter Holiday Programme

The STREETS Winter Camp forms part of the national Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme. The programme supports families during the Christmas period by offering:

  • Fun, structured holiday activities
     
  • Winter-themed enrichment (including our Christmas Escape Room: Save Santa’s Lost Presents!)
     
  • Daily physical activity
     
  • Arts & crafts
     
  • VR sport experiences
     
  • A free meal for every child
     
  • Food packs and hygiene packs for families
     

Camps run across multiple Luton venues for 2–3 days during Christmas week.


Role: Winter Camp Assistant (Work Experience)

Contract: Voluntary Work Experience
Times: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM during camp days
Reporting To: Camp Leader
Locations: Multiple venues across Luton (see below)
Experience Provided: Full reference upon completion + skills development

As a Winter Camp Assistant, you will help deliver safe, structured and exciting activities for children aged 5–11, supporting the Camp Leader, Coaches and SEND Specialist. You will play a key role in ensuring children have a positive, memorable and safe experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Camp Leader with daily camp operations
     
  • Assist coaches and help deliver sports, games and winter-themed activities
     
  • Help facilitate the Christmas Escape Room experience
     
  • Encourage positive behaviour, teamwork and inclusion
     
  • Support children with SEND needs (with guidance from the SEND Specialist)
     
  • Supervise transitions, break times and activities
     
  • Ensure safeguarding, safety and welfare policies are always followed
     
  • Assist with setup, cleaning and preparation of activity areas
     
  • Represent the STREETS Code of Conduct at all times
     
  • Attend mandatory training prior to the camp

  • Good communication skills
     
  • Commitment to safeguarding
     

Desirable

  • Experience in youth groups, schools, sports, or community settings
     
  • Awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion
     
  • First Aid or safeguarding training (not required — can be provided)
     
  • Experience supporting children with SEND

All camps run 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
