STREETS Summer Camp Assistant – Work Experience Opportunity (Summer 2026)

STREETS is offering a fantastic work experience opportunity for enthusiastic and committed individuals who want to support children and young people during our Summer 2026 Holiday Camps.

This role is ideal for anyone interested in education, youth work, sports coaching, or community development — or those looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience for their CV.


About STREETS

STREETS delivers community, education and sports programmes that support young people and families across Luton and beyond.

As a United Nations DESA–accredited organisation, we use sport and structured activities to improve wellbeing, build confidence, and create positive opportunities for all.

Working in partnership with Active Luton and funded through the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, we provide safe, inclusive and engaging environments for children aged 5–11.


About the Summer Programme

The STREETS Summer Camp is part of a four-week programme designed to support children during the school holidays through structured, fun and enriching activities.

Children will take part in:

  • Multi-sports and physical activity 
  • Arts & crafts 
  • Edutainment sessions (fun learning through games and discussion) 
  • Team challenges and confidence-building activities 
  • VR sports experiences 

Each child also receives a meal, and families may receive additional support where required.


Role: Summer Camp Assistant (Work Experience)

Contract: Voluntary Work Experience
Times: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (camp days)
Reporting to: Camp Leader
Locations: Multiple sites across Luton
Experience Provided: Formal reference + skills development

As a Summer Camp Assistant, you will support the delivery of safe, structured and engaging activities for children aged 5–11.

You will work alongside Camp Leaders, Coaches and SEND Specialists to help create a positive and enjoyable experience for all participants.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Camp Leader with daily operations 
  • Assist with sports, games and group activities 
  • Encourage positive behaviour, teamwork and inclusion 
  • Support children with additional needs (with guidance) 
  • Help manage transitions between activities 
  • Ensure safeguarding and safety procedures are followed 
  • Assist with set-up and pack-down of activities 
  • Represent STREETS in a positive and professional manner 
  • Attend a short pre-camp training session 


Person Specification

Essential

  • Enjoy working with children 
  • Friendly, positive and reliable 
  • Good communication skills 
  • Able to work in a team 
  • Punctual and organised 
  • Willingness to follow safeguarding guidance 


Desirable

  • Experience in schools, sports or youth settings 
  • Interest in coaching or community work 
  • Awareness of inclusion and diversity 
  • First Aid or safeguarding training (not required) 
  • Experience supporting children with SEND

  • The Linden Academy 
  • Maidenhall Primary School 
  • Leagrave Methodist Church 


Programme Dates:

  • Week 1: 20th – 23rd July 2026 
  • Week 2: 27th – 30th July 2026 
  • Week 3: 3rd – 6th August 2026 
  • Week 4: 10th – 13th August 2026 

Time:
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
