Chair Aerobics Programme

Bringing Movement to Every Community

 

Chair Aerobics & Community Wellbeing Programme


STREETS, in partnership with Active Luton, Be Active, and Sport England, delivers a free community-based health and wellbeing programme across Luton.

The programme combines chair aerobics, Pilates, and low-impact movement sessions to support older adults and individuals who may be less active, socially isolated, or managing long-term health conditions.


Sessions take place in trusted community venues, faith centres, and GP-linked settings, bringing accessible health support directly into local neighbourhoods.


Supporting Health, Independence and Wellbeing


This is not just an exercise class. It is a structured, preventative health programme designed to support:

  • Mobility, flexibility and strength 
  • Balance and falls prevention 
  • Confidence in movement 
  • Mental wellbeing 
  • Social connection and reduced isolation 


Sessions are led by qualified instructors and supported by trained community volunteers, helping to build long-term health capacity within each setting.


The programme aligns with NHS priorities around prevention, physical activity, and social prescribing, supporting people to remain active, independent, and connected.


What the Sessions Include


Each session is adapted to meet the needs of the group and may include:

  • Chair-based aerobics (movement, coordination and circulation) 
  • Seated and low-impact Pilates (core strength, posture and stability) 
  • Functional exercises to support everyday activities 
  • Gentle stretching and relaxation 


This flexible approach allows participants of all abilities to take part safely and confidently.
